World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions

The USD9.75 million WGC-HSBC Champions is renowned as ‘Asia’s Major’. Our flagship WGC-HSBC Champions sits proudly as the only World Golf Championship event outside of the Americas and as such is the biggest golf tournament in the world outside of the Americas and The Open Championship.

Shanghai is a special place for the bank. We opened for business there in 1865 – and more than 150 years later it is still central to HSBC.

When we first brought HSBC Champions to China in 2005, our ambition was to create a world-class international golf tournament in an emerging market. For more than a decade, our flagship tournament has been the catalyst for the growth of golf in Asia.

HSBC Women’s Champions

Established in 2008, the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore showcases the best in women’s golf and is an annual highlight in the calendar for players and fans alike. In 2017 the tournament attracted all of the top 15 players in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings to win the USD1.5 million tournament at Sentosa Golf Club.

Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has become one of the biggest events on the PGA European Tour and earned a reputation as the jewel in the crown of Middle Eastern golf.

HSBC began its sponsorship in 2011 and now, working with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, we are looking to drive the championship – and golf in the Middle East – to the next level.

The Open

We are proud to be a patron of The Open, the oldest golf tournament in the world and one of golf’s four Major championships.

Our partnership with the R&A, golf's governing body, is now in its seventh year. This gives us access to a network of golf experts and enthusiasts that spans the world, including in many of HSBC's key markets. As The Open proves year after year, links golf guarantees a spectacle that captures the imagination of sports fans the world over.

HSBC Golf Grassroots

For many years, our stated ambition in golf has been to open up the sport to new audiences and new markets. Our grassroots activity powers our objective to make golf “Anyone’s Game.”

The “HSBC Hour” initiative, offering an hour of free golf to young people and their families across the week of The Open, celebrated its third year in 2017. We teamed up with The Golf Foundation, Club Golf Scotland and Confederation of Golf in Ireland for a programme that saw 300 clubs take part in the UK and Ireland as well as HSBC Hours taking place in Hong Kong and the UAE, with more than 2,000 people receiving free golf tuition.

HSBC is also sponsor of HSBC Golf Roots in The UK – The Golf Foundation’s national development programme that has been hugely successful in promoting the sport in schools, helping youngsters into clubs and promoting important life skills.

In China, we support the CGA-HSBC China Junior Golf Program – building a sustainable long-term structure and framework for the future of Chinese golf. We renewed this association in 2016 and remain a committed partner. HSBC also supports youth programmes in Singapore, Hong Kong and the UAE.
