Global Research Industrial Placement
Give yourself the edge over the competition and get a taste for life in an international bank before you’ve even started your final year of university. With our Global Research Industrial Placement, you can spend 13 months learning how research affects our global operations and our diverse customer base.
|For:||Penultimate-year students and postgraduate students|
|Areas:||Global Banking and Markets – Global Research|
|Applications open:||3 September 2019|
|Applications close:||25 October 2019|
|Start date:||22 June 2020 - 23 July 2021|
We encourage you to apply for your programme of choice as soon as possible, as we recruit on a rolling basis and may close applications before the advertised date, if all vacancies are filled.
On our paid 13-month industrial placement, you can learn how research is used to help our corporate and institutional customers.
What you can expect
The research we do in Global Banking and Markets is important because of the confidence it gives our customers in our advice and services. On this internship, you can expect to gain a better understanding of how we build client relationships using research to back up everything we do for customers. You’ll work with a team of professionals who are keen to help you develop your understanding of how Global Research works. You’ll share knowledge, question what you don’t know and learn to respond to questions from customers.
What you will do
No matter what degree you’re doing, you’ll become part of the team. You’ll realise the importance of keeping on top of market news, economic data releases and day-to-day news flows. You’ll learn about macroeconomic, sector and company-specific research and how these affect the services we offer our clients.
You’ll also familiarise yourself with our trade strategies, business targets and analytical methods, working with research analysts and economists to understand how we use these tools. And you’ll realise the extent of our international presence by sitting in on calls with our US, Asia and UK teams.
Who does this suit?
Everyone brings something different to the table but we still value some specific qualities. We’re looking for:
- Inquisitive learners. You should never be afraid to ask if you don’t know. Being inquisitive and hungry for knowledge will help you become a successful researcher with a strong understanding of our business
- Motivated researchers. Having a determination to learn from those around you and to further your own career will be admired. We’re international and we are looking for people who want to take advantage of our global network
- Analytical thinkers. Having a good eye for detail and a mind for analysing data will help you thrive from the start. But it’s equally important that you understand your clients so that you can help them make the best decisions
- Opportunity takers. By completing extra training, working with new teams or taking on new and exciting projects, you’ll get noticed by our senior leaders. Putting yourself forward for new opportunities will stand you in good stead for our graduate programme
What can this lead to?
If this industrial placement goes well, you’ll be considered for our Global Research Global Graduate Programme, where you’ll learn more about in-depth research practices.
