My favourite aspect of my role as a Relationship Manager in Commercial Banking is that I'm not desk-bound as I spend a third of my time with clients

I started at HSBC on the Commercial Banking graduate programme. Since then I’ve been involved in a variety of roles, one of which involved supporting Relationship Managers with their credit analyses and annual credit write-ups.

I am now a Relationship Manager myself and have a portfolio of businesses to manage. I am an advisor to my clients, assisting them in debt financing and cash management. This role can be really rewarding but it’s also challenging. It’s important to understand the client and their needs.

A third of my time is spent with clients. The rest is spent focusing on their needs - writing credit proposals and credit reviews. Commercial officers assist me in resolving administrative and day-to-day concerns. I appreciate all the support I get from them, as well as from direct managers and the bank office functions. It enables me to do a good job for my clients as well as for the bank.
