Some companies talk about values, here at HSBC, we live our values. After working with many other organisations as a contractor, joining HSBC in 2014 felt different – it immediately felt like a place where I could truly belong. I became a permanent member of staff in April 2020.
HSBC’s values align to my own personal values, for example, “We value difference” – I am passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion and have had opportunity to be part of the change I seek. I headed up the Diversity and Inclusion Council for GPS UK in 2024. I’m also a member of Christians in HSBC (CiH). It happens to be HSBC’s first employee resource group (ERG), set up in 1975. Many more ERGs have been set up since, so one can always find whatever their passion is.
HSBC invests in its people, and I am enjoying the support available at HSBC in developing my own career. Through the bank, I have attended both informal trainings e.g., through HSBC Degreed, and formal trainings e.g. the Solaris Women’s Executive Leadership Programme.

I’m currently a Senior Product Risk Manager in Global Payments Solutions, HSBC UK. My role is to oversee any issues arising from the products we provide to our customers. Prior to that, until May 2022, I worked in Global Markets, on regulatory change programmes. This shows the breadth of exposure across the bank, where opportunities can arise across businesses and geographies.
What has surprised me most since taking on a permanent role is the sheer scale of support available. There’s so much on offer here – from a meaningful benefits package to development opportunities that can be tailored for every individual. I’ve seen firsthand that this is a place that truly cares and listens – not just to its customers but its people.
Anyone that wants to join HSBC should do so because this is more than a workplace, this is a community. You don’t need to conform to a certain norm, you can bring all of who you are and be authentically different. If you have the desire to grow your career, there are real possibilities and opportunities in this global organisation.
