My day-to-day role is focused on creating our new head office in Birmingham. I get to be part of the implementation. It’s really exciting. Huge. Challenging. But immensely rewarding.

Helen, Senior Manager, Retail Banking, Birmingham (HSBC UK)

Banking is changing and HSBC is responding. The Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013 requires all banks such as HSBC to ‘ring-fence’ their core banking services in the UK by 1 January 2019. With our new head office in Birmingham, we’ve embraced the terms and the spirit of the law. The office at 1 Centenary Square is to open later this year.

Why Birmingham?

Our choice of location was an important consideration. Our customers, employees and branches are spread across the UK, and Birmingham’s central location will make us more accessible to our diverse customer base.

Our new head office is less than 10 minutes on foot from Birmingham New Street station, from which there is excellent rail access to the rest of the country. Direct services to and from London take less than an hour and a half, and when the new high-speed rail link (HS2) goes ahead, travel from the capital to Birmingham will take just 49 minutes.

Built for our people

Our new office reflects our values and our ambitions for the future. It will be one of the greenest in Birmingham, helping us to reduce waste and carbon dioxide emissions. Key materials have been sourced responsibly. All timber is from sources approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, for example. Read more about the office’s green credentials.
