Stuart Riley

Stuart Riley joined HSBC as Group Chief Information Officer in February 2024 and is a member of the Group Operating Committee.He is responsible for leading the bank’s technology strategy, enabling the delivery of an efficient, resilient and innovative digital bank for customers.

Before joining HSBC, Stuart was Co-Chief Information Officer of Citi, where he oversaw the technology and infrastructure for its global businesses and functions and led cross-functional artificial intelligence initiatives. He previously held senior technology roles at Deutsche Bank and was a partner at a technology consulting firm.

Stuart holds a bachelor’s degree in software engineering management from Bournemouth University. He has been commercially involved in software from a very young age, spending many years as an engineer and developer-something he continues to be engaged in today.

Beyond software engineering, Stuart is passionate about diversity and education initiatives. He was co-lead of the Citi Women initiative and is a member of Teach First’s technology committee, which aims to develop solutions that create a fair education forall.

At HSBC, he is the executive sponsor for Strive UK, an employee resource group that supports and advocates for colleagues from different economic backgrounds.
