Michael Roberts
CEO of HSBC Bank plc and CEO of Corporate and Institutional Banking
Michael Roberts is CEO of HSBC Bank plc and CEO of Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB), and a member of HSBC’s Group Operating Committee.
Michael leads the bank’s CIB business globally, supporting international corporate and institutional clients across HSBC’s network with market-leading capabilities in transaction banking and financing. He was appointed to this role in January 2025.
As CEO of HSBC Bank plc, Michael also oversees HSBC’s businesses in the US, the Americas and Europe, and is an Executive Director on the HSBC Bank plc Board.
Michael joined HSBC in 2019 as President and CEO of HSBC USA, and was appointed CEO Americas, with additional oversight of Canada and Latin America, in April 2021.
Previously, Michael worked at Citigroup, where he held senior leadership roles including Global Head of Corporate Banking and Capital Management and Chief Lending Officer; Head of Global Financial Institutions, Head of Global Automotive and Industrials; and CEO of Citibank Canada.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin, and a master’s degree in banking and finance from the Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
