Group Chief Legal Officer

Bob Hoyt is the Group Chief Legal Officer of HSBC Holdings plc and a member of the Group Operating Committee, a position he has held since January 2021.

He is responsible for leading HSBC’s global legal function, providing strategic advice to the Board, the Chief Executive, and senior management on legal and regulatory matters, and ensuring alignment of the legal function with the Group’s business objectives.

Prior to joining HSBC, Bob served as Group General Counsel of Barclays plc from 2013 to 2020, overseeing all legal matters globally and leading the bank’s engagement with regulators and policymakers. He was previously General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Affairs Officer for PNC Financial Services Group. Between 2006 and 2009, he served as General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr, following earlier service as Special Assistant and Associate Counsel to U.S. President George W. Bush. At the start of his career, Bob clerked at the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts before joining Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in Washington DC in 1990.
