Richard Meddings

Richard will assume the role of Chair of the Group Audit Committee with effect from 5 August 2026 following publication of the 2026 Interim Results.
Skills and experience: Richard is an experienced financial leader, with significant board and executive-level strategic, risk and financial leadership experience. He brings excellent knowledge of global banking and the international regulatory environment in which the Group operates.
Career: Richard has previously served as Group Finance Director at Standard Chartered plc, where he had responsibility for Finance, Risk, Tax, Treasury, Strategy, Corporate Development and Investor Relations. Before joining Standard Chartered, he held the roles of Group Financial Controller and COO, Wealth Management at Barclays plc, following its acquisition of Woolwich plc, where he served as Group Finance Director. He has previously served as Chairman of NHS England, Chairman of TSB Bank, on the board of HM Treasury, and as a non-executive Director on the boards of Credit Suisse, Legal & General, 3i Group, Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group and Deutsche Bank A.G.
Richard also previously chaired the Avoidable Blindness charity, Seeing is Believing, and served as a trustee and deputy chair of TeachFirst.
He is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has a Degree in Modern History from Exeter College, Oxford, where he is an Honorary Fellow.
