HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series
The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series continues to be a driving force behind the growth of the sport. The shorter form of the game is exporting an accessible and hugely entertaining product all around the world, and we are proud to help drive its growth as the title sponsor of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
The men’s series has undergone several changes in recent years, with new cities bringing exuberant crowds and new energy to the sport. Starting in Dubai, before moving to Cape Town, Hamilton, Sydney, Las Vegas, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and then Paris, it is a truly global competition that takes in many of the world’s great cities.
Our role in helping to support the growth of Rugby Sevens is the perfect mirror to our role as a business. Driving the growth of the sport around the world, in new, developing markets, allowing players to express their talents and fans to enrich their daily experiences speaks to our ambition as a business.
HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series
The women’s game continues to grow at a rapid rate. In 2015 we became the first-ever title sponsor of the increasingly popular Women’s World Rugby Sevens Series. With more than 1.5 million women regularly playing rugby, there is a huge growth opportunity for the women’s game. In 2017/18 a five-leg series will visit Dubai, Sydney, Kitakyushu, Burnaby in Canada, and Paris.
Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens
The iconic Hong Kong Sevens holds a special place in our global sponsorship portfolio, located as it is in Hong Kong, one of our two home markets.
The event remains our flagship rugby sponsorship in Asia and an important platform for engaging customers within a key market for our business.
HSBC Grassroots Rugby
As a long-term sponsor of rugby all over the world, we are committed to developing the game at all levels. We continue to host a number of international Sevens-specific training programmes including hosting the world’s biggest schools Sevens tournament at Rosslyn Park in London. By working with well-known rugby players we are able to raise awareness of the short-form version of the game and build momentum around the sport.
The ‘HSBC Rookie Rugby’ programme in Canada is taking rugby to communities across the country and with our support is expected to reach an additional 375,000 people across a three-year partnership. In Hong Kong, we recently launched ‘HSBC Try Rugby’ with the Hong Kong Rugby Union. This is a truly exciting partnership where we work directly with The Education University of Hong Kong to include rugby to PR curriculums in primary schools in Hong Kong, where rugby has previously never featured.
HSBC is helping children all over the world experience the game for the first time and we are also proud to support HSBC Penguins Rugby Club as it continues to play an essential role in aiding the development of rugby in fast-growing nations across the globe, including India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Uruguay.
Hong Kong Rugby Teams
HSBC is the official sponsor of the Hong Kong Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams in both Sevens and Fifteens, which attract talented players from age-grade to a senior level.
We are proud to be the Official Banking Partner of the Wallabies, Australia's national rugby union team. The partnership serves as a platform for us to give our customers across the globe exposure to the very top level of rugby. It has also been an important component of our grassroots activity, with Wallabies stars joining us to help inspire a new generation of young fans and players.
