Hong Kong Banking Graduate Trainee Programme

The Banking Graduate Trainee Programme is for university graduates looking to start their career at one of the world’s leading international banks.

Initiated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the programme provides on-the-job practical experience, project-based work and training to university graduates, with the aim to develop skills and grow expertise in Hong Kong to support the sustainable development of the banking industry.

For: Hong Kong SAR residents who are lawfully employable in Hong Kong, graduating in 2021 or 2022, with a Bachelor’s degree or above in any study discipline
Duration: One year
Areas: Digital Business Services – Fintech; Wealth and Personal Banking - Green and Sustainable Finance; Greater Bay Area office - Business Development, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao

Who can apply?

To be considered for this programme, you will:

  • Have well-developed language skills in English (Cantonese and Putonghua would be advantageous)
  • Possess strong communication skills and be able to collaborate with others effectively
  • Have solid PC skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Excel – at macro level, Access and Projects is advantageous)
  • Be a Hong Kong SAR resident who is lawfully employable in Hong Kong
  • Chinese typing skills are advantageous

What to expect?

You will be a valued member of the team in which you are based, and assigned specific responsibilities. You will be supported by experienced managers, colleagues and a wide network of diverse peers and will be encouraged to share your views and ideas.

Learning, development and support

Over the course of the programme, you will gain experience and insight in to the business area for which you are recruited, and you can expect a combination of varied on-the-job practical experience, project-based work and functional exposure. You will be encouraged to learn, ask questions, take on responsibilities and develop your professional network.

In addition to in-house training, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) will provide centralised training for all programme participants across the industry during your first year of employment. You can also pursue relevant professional qualifications in the respective business or function streams (e.g. Enhanced Competency Framework – Fintech (ECF-Fintech) for hires in the fintech stream), or attend the B.E.S.T certificate course provided by The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) with full sponsorship by the HKMA.
