My job is very rewarding. I often get in my car after work and smile to myself

I joined HSBC as a cashier after doing A levels and have now completed the apprenticeship scheme offered to staff below degree level. To do this, I had to pass exams in retail banking, maths and English key skills.

When I started, I didn’t even know what a bank sort code was. The opportunities at HSBC are endless. You just have to show willing, be proactive and put in the effort.

I see myself having a long career with HSBC and aim to pick up many new skills and qualifications along the way. I am currently part of a scheme which will provide me with the qualifications to embark on a mortgage role.

My day-to-day role involves a morning meeting before we open the branch, setting up the banking hall ready for customers and resolving their queries. We have meetings at mid-day and at the end of day to ensure we are always doing the right thing for our customers. I often study for my exams in the evenings.

The work you put in does not go unnoticed and there is always recognition. My job is very rewarding. I often get in my car after work and smile to myself. It may well be that I have helped someone that day or simply just enjoyed being part of the team.
