Being a presence in the community is crucial to our success

I have been with HSBC for more than 10 years after joining on the UK Graduate Training Programme. I have worked in both Retail Banking and Wealth Management and Commercial Banking. In recent roles as a Performance Director and Deputy Regional Director I have worked with countries across Europe.

In addition, I have participated in the Next Generation Programme. This involved spending time with colleagues from across the Group, helping local farmers in Brazil and then working on a project to review the performance of one of our insurance products. I also represented HSBC at a government-backed programme looking at the future of the banking sector.

I am on secondment in Canada, where I am an area manager responsible for 25 branches in British Columbia. My role is to drive growth in the branches’ business, develop the employees who work there and ensure we achieve the highest standards of risk management and compliance. I spend a lot of time visiting branches, meeting clients and coaching staff members.

Helping colleagues to achieve their goals – whether that is a promotion, providing excellent service to clients or helping in the community – is a great part of my day. Being a presence in the community is crucial to our success and supporting local charities both financially and with time is important and rewarding.
