I graduated from Cardiff University with an economics degree but working in financial services wasn't originally part of my career plan. In 2008 I joined HSBC's UK Digital Marketing team because I was attracted by the strength of the brand and the global opportunities such a large organisation could offer.
From there, I joined the Proposition Development team and became involved in digital programmes to support Retail Banking and Wealth Management. I'm now in Business Steering, which helps make sure the UK retail bank is in line with our annual operating plans, and our medium and long-term strategies.
I have the benefit of being involved in many parts of the UK retail banking business, whether that's supporting our brands - first direct and M&S Bank – managing our investment costs, or understanding how our businesses are performing. I'm lucky to be involved in so many different things across the business.
I am involved in a lot of meetings, but I really enjoy getting out to different parts of the business; to Chester, Sheffield, Leeds or out into the branch network.
HSBC offers international opportunities and the chance to develop a range of skills and knowledge – like many multinational organisations. But I think it's the people that bring something different. It's a unique culture that encourages diversity, passion and change, not to mention hard work, but it's very rewarding.
