I’ll never forget my global graduate programme. What I didn’t expect were the friendships I made and the social culture that permeated throughout. We worked hard and played hard.

I am now a Relationship Manager looking after commercial real estate clients including property investors and construction companies. In this industry clients tend to have complex financial needs. It means I need in-depth knowledge of the market.

Before a client relationship is started, I undertake due diligence to understand the client’s financial needs and analyse if and how HSBC can help. I am not a specialist in every product HSBC offers, so I invite the partners on the products I have identified to meet the client so we structure the best solution. If the business becomes an HSBC client then I start the approval process, including writing up credit proposals and obtaining risk approvals. You may think a Relationship Manager’s job ends here but it doesn’t. I have to review the loan agreements and security documents to make sure both the bank and the client are well protected. It may be the last stage of securing a client but it is also the most important.
