I expected a strong learning curve in the Commercial Banking graduate programme because I came straight from getting my MBA. The learning curve is balanced by the exposure we get to senior leaders and the on-the-job training. For the first few months of the programme I worked in Toronto with many other Commercial Banking trainees from all over Canada for credit, product and sales training. That training enabled me to assume a much more active role, taking on files from analysts on the team.
At the moment I am supporting the Relationship Managers by meeting their clients’ needs in a variety of ways. It can involve meeting clients, conducting credit analysis and other tasks.
My exposure to Commercial Banking has made me realise the areas in which I would like to specialise. So I am looking forward to developing into a Relationship Manager and developing a portfolio of my own for my clients. And I would love to work in another country too. I know that with all the training and opportunities I am getting, this is a realistic ambition.
