Investment analysts need to have a deep understanding of the sector. My rotations in regional equities and the fixed income team in Taipei gave me great insight into the sectors I now specialise in such as commodities and paper and China IPPs (independent power producers). Working in Taipei also provided me with the chance to understand the strategies of different regions and how teams in different offices communicate and collaborate around the world in their day-to-day work.
Besides my professional career, work also gives me opportunities to get involved in community life. I joined the Dragon Boat team during my graduate training and participated in Kids Read volunteering during my time in Taipei.
One piece of advice I would give to anyone applying to our graduate programmes is to make full use of all the interviews and interactions to discover what will be best for you. Ask questions, listen to what the answers are and find out if there is a fit between HSBC and you.
