My day-to-day role is focused on creating our new head office in Birmingham. I get to be part of the implementation. It’s really exciting. Huge. Challenging. But immensely rewarding.

Helen, Senior Manager, Retail Banking, Birmingham (HSBC UK)

Banking is changing and HSBC is responding. The Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013 requires all banks such as HSBC to ‘ring-fence’ their core banking services in the UK by 1 January 2019. With our new head office in Birmingham, we’ve embraced the terms and the spirit of the law. The office at 1 Centenary Square is on course to open in January 2018 and we’ve already started recruiting. For ambitious professionals, there are opportunities to help shape this new environment.

Who we are looking for

You could be a seasoned professional or in the early stages of your career. We see our move to Birmingham as an opportunity to bring people with different talents, backgrounds, ideas and perspectives into HSBC UK, reaffirming our commitment to diversity.

As an employer, it is our responsibility to ensure that all of our people can enjoy a flexible working culture. This is why we support a number of alternative ways of working, allowing our employees to find a balance that takes into account all of their priorities.

It’s up to all of us as individuals to set our own parameters. You’re not expected to be seen in the office to prove you’re delivering.

Jo, Head of Learning and Talent Development (HSBC UK)

Why Birmingham?

Our choice of location was an important consideration. Our customers, employees and branches are spread across the UK, and Birmingham’s central location will make us more accessible to our diverse customer base.

Our new head office is less than 10 minutes on foot from Birmingham New Street station, from which there is excellent rail access to the rest of the country. Direct services to and from London take less than an hour and a half, and when the new high-speed rail link (HS2) goes ahead, travel from the capital to Birmingham will take just 49 minutes.

Our new building

Built for our people

We wanted our office to reflect our values and our ambitions for the future. That’s why the new building will be one of the greenest in Birmingham, helping us to reduce waste and carbon dioxide emissions. Key materials have been sourced responsibly. All timber is from sources approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, for example. Read more about the office’s green credentials.
