The role of HSBC Operations, Services and Technology (HOST) is to:

  • Run and deliver customer operations and help manage change in the bank

  • Develop software and applications that underpin HSBC’s banking systems

  • Manage IT systems, infrastructure and support

  • Implement major strategic change programmes

  • Provide professional services such as procurement and real estate management

HOST is made up of five connected groups:

Global Operations

Global Operations is responsible for activities including:

  • Managing the day-to-day transactions of our Retail Banking and Wealth Management business

  • Running operations for our Commercial Banking business and supporting our Global Private Banking and Global Banking and Markets businesses to serve customers across their global networks

  • Simplifying the way we run HSBC, introducing automation to reduce workload and costs and improve the experience of customers

  • Helping to drive change for the bank’s global businesses and functions, for the benefit of HSBC and our customers

Our Global Operations teams are based both in the countries in which we operate and in large Global Service Centres located in India, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Poland.

We offer opportunities for both experienced professionals and graduates. Roles include business processing agents and consultants, customer service in contact centres, business and compliance analysts, project managers, and managerial and supervisory positions.

IT

Our global IT team develops and manages HSBC’s systems and technology infrastructure.

We develop, implement and support software and IT services and processes that allow HSBC to remain at the forefront of high-quality banking systems.

We develop and maintain systems for HSBC’s global businesses, as well as support functions such as Finance, HR and Risk. We work across a range of technology platforms and development disciplines, from mainframe to mobile technologies.

We also manage the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC’s employees and customers, including cost-efficient hardware, system software, middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices.

Our team includes software engineers and developers, architects, testers, IT and business analysts, consultants and programme and project managers, as well as team leadership and management roles. We employ people in almost all the countries and territories in which HSBC operates.

They work in areas including: software development; deployment and production support; client services (managing the systems and software used daily by HSBC’s employees and providing IT support); enterprise services and architecture; data centre management; project management; and risk and administration.

Many of our colleagues support teams around the world from our Global Technology Centres, which are located in China, India, Malaysia, Poland and Canada.

COO Office

Our chief operating officers are responsible for managing the firm efficiently and effectively and delivering our strategy.

The COO Office manages risk and administration activities for operational areas across HSBC, provides leadership and guidance that enables us to fulfil our business risk, control and operational support responsibilities, and ensures excellence in the delivery of our services.

Corporate Real Estate

Corporate Real Estate manages HSBC’s property portfolio for the benefit of our businesses, employees and customers.

We are responsible for an international network of around 4,400 offices in 71 countries and territories.

We play an important part in HSBC’s growth, managing everything from data centres, offices, and express banking and retail outlets to residences, including owned and leased property. We help make sure that customers and colleagues on HSBC premises benefit from a safe and well-managed physical environment.

Global Procurement

Global Procurement plays a fundamental role in the day-to-day provision of goods and services for the HSBC Group. Our primary focus is to deliver commercial value through all areas of procurement worldwide. We work closely with other parts of HSBC to provide leadership of the bank’s third-party supplier relationships.
