The HSBC World Golf Champions in Shanghai is our flagship event in the men’s game. Shanghai is a special place for the bank. We opened for business there in 1865 – almost 150 years later it is still central to HSBC.
The HSBC Champions, created in November 2005, attracts the world's best players and in 2009 the event was granted World Golf Championship status – the first outside the US to achieve this.
This year’s WGC-HSBC Champions will be held at Sheshan Golf Club between 6-9 November.
HSBC Women’s Champions
The HSBC Women’s Champions showcases the best players in the women’s game. Now in its fifth year, the event is often described as ‘Asia’s Major’. Players qualify by winning tournaments on the LPGA Tour or by finishing in the top 20.
HSBC Women's Champions serves as a platform to host our best corporate and private customers in a country where we have a long and distinguished heritage.
Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
The tournament is one of the biggest events on the PGA European Tour, regularly attracting some of golf’s most famous names.
HSBC began its five-year sponsorship in 2011. The tournament is now a key part of HSBC’s global golf programme and the bank is working with the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority to expand the event further.
The Open Championship
HSBC is proud to be an official patron of The Open Championship, the world’s oldest golf tournament and one of the four golfing Majors.
Our partnership with The R&A, golf's governing body, is central to our golf sponsorship programme.
Brasil Champions presented by HSBC
The Brasil Champions is a new event on the Web.com Tour and the first time it has been to Brazil. The Web.com Tour is the developmental tour for the US-based PGA Tour and represents the main opportunity to earn a place on the PGA Tour.
HSBC teamed up with Gary Player, winner of nine Majors, to help three young Brazilian players prepare for the tournament. This helped Rafael Becker, age 22, tie for 26th place in the tournament.
HSBC Golf Business Forum
The inaugural HSBC Golf Business Forum will be the 11th staging of the annual event, established in 2004 and widely regarded as the most important business-to-business golf event in Europe, Middle East and Africa for golf industry professionals. This year saw 277 delegates from over 40 different countries come together, in Abu Dhabi, to discuss and debate emerging issues in the golf industry.
HSBC Golf Roots
As well as a commitment to the professional game, HSBC sponsors youth development and golf grassroots programmes around the world.
In the UK, we have partnered with The Golf Foundation to sponsor the HSBC Golf Roots programme. The Golf Foundation aims to give all children and young people access to the sport regardless of their background or circumstances. It aims to reach a million children a year.
In China HSBC sponsors the China National Junior Team, the China Junior Open and the National Junior Golf Championship – a series of tournaments offering China’s best junior golfers a platform to develop their game.
In Singapore, HSBC Youth Golf Challenge tournaments are played throughout the year, reaching thousands of children at all levels.
HSBC Premier Golf Days
The HSBC Premier Golf Network is an online ‘golf club’ where HSBC Premier customers in the UK receive the benefits of golf club membership without affiliation to just one club. HSBC Premier customers can benefit from cheaper green fees, take advantage of a network of PGA professionals offering discounted lessons and learn through monthly video tutorials and question and answer sessions.
