Flash Purchasing Managers' Index

The HSBC Flash China Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) has been created in partnership with Markit to provide the earliest indication of economic conditions in China. Based on analysis of pre-production HSBC China PMI survey data, the HSBC Flash China Manufacturing PMI will be published a week ahead of the final PMI data every month, giving an insight into the outlook for one of the world's fastest growing economies, ahead of other comparable official and government statistics.

The Flash PMI survey will be based on 85% to 90% of the total PMI survey responses each month and is designed to provide an accurate advance indication of the Final PMI data. Flash and Final PMI data seek to measure underlying economic trends each month while aiming to remove seasonal effects on the data, such as the Chinese New Year, which can cause a significant change to production and demand.

Flash PMI data, compiled by Markit, are already available for France, Germany and the Eurozone, and are closely followed by central banks, policy makers and financial markets to gain accurate and comprehensive information on economic conditions in the Euro region.

The HSBC Flash China Manufacturing PMI will be made available one week prior to the final PMI data and will be based on data compiled from monthly replies to questionnaires sent to purchasing executives in over 400 manufacturing companies. The survey panel includes small, medium and large manufacturers, comprising state owned and private enterprises to give an accurate representation of the Chinese manufacturing sector.
