My design work has been used for advocacy, empowerment and carving my own career.

I describe my background as untraditional because I learned everything I know on the internet.

I grew up in foster care.

If you know anything about being in care, you know you have to speak up for yourself a lot.

It's taught me a bit more about the injustices you see around the world.

I love creativity and I love standing up for things, so I took both of those passions and realised that I could stand up for junior creatives.

I run an organisation, which essentially stands up for people who come from untraditional creative routes, like myself.

Early on it was difficult for me to establish my career as a creative.

Most voices around me were pushing me to pursue a traditional career, but I knew that would betray my passion.

I wanted to prove them wrong, so I didn't even apply for university.

My method was simple: make things and show people.

My acceptance into a prestigious design programme led to an opportunity at HSBC.

Now I work as a global brand designer, shaping our brand identity all around the world.

Because all the brilliant people we work with have a unique story, it elevates the work we're doing and improves the experience for all of our customers.

It's inspiring to think that a kid from East Leeds gets to have a hand in setting the standards for a brand with over 160 years' heritage.

It just fills me with so much pride.

The arts have a very important place in our society and obviously the artists that create them.

It’s often a taboo to talk about money in the creative sectors, which is a shame because if you manage to create a base of financial independence that leads to creative independence.

My grandmother who was an artist herself introduced me to the art world.

Through her I learned how to appreciate art and really see the kind of impact that it can have.

Being exposed to the art world gave me access to very talented artists that created incredible works, but it really highlighted the gap between that and the financial know-how and ability to create financial independence.

I really wanted to take my backgrounds in art and finance to bridge that gap.

I created a business plan and approached HSBC with that

HSBC responded well to the proposal and within 6 months a role was created.

I am now working to help artists continue to make art and help the sector be more sustainable.

This is very much supported by the infrastructure and tools at HSBC and the people I work with.

I love being a part of an artist’s journey, through their success and helping them thrive and protect the legacy they have created.

I was always really curious to understand how the world got to be the way it is today.

When I was growing up there was always a lot of conversation at the dinner table around current, affairs, politics, economics.

I was constantly asking questions: “How did we get here?” “Why is it the way it is?”

That curiosity stuck with me as I grew older.

So, I'm basically a Carbon Removal Technology Specialist sitting within HSBC.

I join the dots between technology, economics, and policy with finance to help scale carbon removal industries.

What excites me the most about the future is seeing carbon removal technologies move from a concept to a blueprint to reality.

HSBC has enabled me to bring together everything that I've learned in my career not just talk about things but effect real change.

For someone who's spent a lifetime asking questions about why the world is the way it is, HSBC provides me with that platform not just to explore but to affect change with it.
