Managing risk

Active risk management helps us to achieve our strategy, serve our customers and communities and grow our business safely.

HSBC has maintained a consistent approach to risk throughout our history, helping to ensure we protect customers’ funds, lend responsibly and support economies.

By carefully aligning our risk appetite to our strategy, we aim to deliver sustainable, long-term shareholder returns.

All our people are responsible for the management of risk, with the ultimate accountability residing with the Board. Our Global Risk and Compliance function, led by the Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, oversees a comprehensive risk management framework that is applied throughout the Group. It focuses on creating an environment that encourages our people to speak up and do the right thing.
