Induction

Each global graduate programme begins with an induction, where you’ll meet other new graduates and your programme managers. It’s an exciting first opportunity to:

• Hear from senior leaders about our global strategy and vision
• Start building your global network that will be essential for your new role and future
• Explore how you can help shape the future of HSBC
• Gather all the important details about your programme to help you have a flying start

Business rotations

Our global graduate programmes may include a number of rotations, providing you with a breadth of experience across our core business areas. The aim is to:

• Help shape your career and give you an idea of what you want to specialise in once you have finished the programme
• Build your understanding of our products and services and how they help our clients thrive
• Give you the opportunity to share fresh ideas and make a tangible impact on our business
• Broaden your network: you’ll have the chance to meet lots of new and experienced colleagues who will support and guide you along the way

Business insights

You’ll also have the opportunity to take advantage of other learning activities, such as:

• HSBC speaker series and ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions, which give an insight into new thinking, potential career journeys and the bank’s strategic priorities
• Specific initiatives around innovation and entrepreneurialism to encourage you to share your ideas
• Taking part in sustainability projects that connect you even more closely to the communities we serve

Qualifications and professional development

Regardless of what subject you studied at university, we will provide you with the necessary tools to be successful in your role. For example:

• Training and support to help you achieve any regulatory certification you require or professional qualifications to advance your knowledge
• As well as a line manager, you’ll also have a programme manager who can guide you through what this involves. You’ll also have a mentor and a ‘buddy’ who will provide guidance too: having been a new graduate themselves, they can help you navigate through the various development opportunities on offer

Structured classroom training, online training and access to our global HSBC University means you can constantly update and build on your expertise.

Ongoing support

As well as providing formal training, we recognise the value in learning from others. You’ll benefit from:

• Your graduate network and the HSBC graduate programme alumni
• Access to your assigned buddy, your graduate programme manager and mentor to seek advice whenever needed
• Regular networking opportunities for your graduate group to help you and your peers to thrive
• Support from our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These play an important role in building a culture that we can all be proud of, and are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups
• Sessions to develop your soft skills and ‘transition’ training to support you as you complete the programme and start the next step in your career
