A new era for China-UK relations
The time is right to work towards a more strategic relationship between China and the UK, according to HSBC Group Chairman Mark Tucker.
He told guests at an event in London to mark the Lunar New Year that both countries stand to benefit from closer cooperation in areas including infrastructure, digital technology, and sustainable finance.
He said: “Over the last decade, the development of bilateral trade and investment, as well as cultural, education and other links, have created a strong and wide-ranging UK-China relationship. I believe that it can become even stronger, even more comprehensive, and even more mutually beneficial.”
The UK’s relationships with key global partners are set to enter a new era as the country leaves the European Union, Mr Tucker added. Closer cooperation could encourage greater Chinese investment into the country, including the North of England and the Midlands.
Guests at the event included His Excellency Liu Xiaoming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China.
