What to expect
We’re looking for the future leaders of Global Banking. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.
We have graduate opportunities in the following areas:
Investment Banking: we offer financial and advisory services that support important strategic events in a company’s evolution (e.g. an acquisition, divestiture or an IPO) and/or where our clients wish to raise funds from investors in the capital or loan markets to support their operations and fund growth (eg a bond issuance or raising equity). Our clients are corporates, financial and public sector institutions and financial sponsors (e.g. private equity and sovereign wealth funds).
If you join us, you will get the opportunity to develop a broad set of investment banking skills by rotating between different teams, both in your home city and potentially abroad. Subject to your preferences and business needs, you could gain experience across areas that include: Advisory (M&A and capital and transaction structure advisory), Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, Financial Sponsors, Project and Export Finance, Infrastructure and Real Estate Finance, and our advisory-focused Sector teams.
Coverage Relationship Management (CRM): this is the principal point of contact for HSBC’s largest clients, responsible for building trusted relationships and delivering bespoke services across the full suite of products globally. CRM uses HSBC’s platform of banking solutions and unrivalled global network of relationship managers and product specialists to meet the global needs of clients.
You’ll complete a number of rotations during the two-year programme to help you understand the range of products and services that HSBC offers and how we tailor these to provide bespoke client solutions. You’ll also gain a thorough understanding of risk, which is vital to protecting the interests of our clients.
There will be plenty of people around to support you. You’ll be assigned a mentor and buddy, who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance and provide a sounding-board for your ideas. There will be many opportunities to develop your network of contacts within Global Banking and beyond. You’ll also be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.
As well as your immediate team, we have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), also known as networks. They are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups. Our seven core diversity-themed networks are: Ability, Balance, Embrace, Faith, Generations, Nurture and Pride. We also have common interest groups that connect employees on a variety of different topics. They are open to all employees.
We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your role and location.
Learning and development
We offer fantastic opportunities for you to grow your career. We take your development seriously and are committed to supporting you in driving your career forward. This starts with our global induction which will provide you with an overview of HSBC, the opportunity to connect with peers and business leaders from across the world, and will prepare you for the programme.
Once you have completed you Induction you will join the Global Banking & Markets Technical Training in August/September 2018, which will be delivered in the UK. This will provide you with an understanding of how everything in the bank fits together, along with a mix of technical and regulatory training. The Technical Training is also an ideal opportunity to start building your own global network, which will prove invaluable as your HSBC career unfolds.
We’ll provide the support, tools and opportunities for you to drive your own career development. As you move through your rotations, you’ll learn from specialised research analysts and economists, gaining a detailed insight into HSBC’s strengths in the financial services industry. Your training will be carefully structured, with events and other opportunities to build your wider HSBC and banking knowledge. You’ll have regular access to business leaders for coaching and advice, while constructive feedback will enable you to measure your performance.
The Global Banking Global Graduate Programme is the beginning of an exciting, long-term international career. When you complete this programme you will join a product or sector team if you opted for investment banking, or a sector or country team if you opted for Coverage Relationship Management.
Being an international bank, HSBC offers an exciting platform globally that you will be able to benefit from. As you continue your journey in HSBC and progress towards a senior role, you will also be able to search for international opportunities, work across multiple products and geographies, broaden your horizons and nurture your curiosity.
We are looking for driven, hard-working and commercially minded people who enable us to develop and deliver tailored services for traditional corporates, financial and public sector institutions and financial sponsors. Are you one of them?
We assess all applicants against our values and our global graduate capability framework. Information on our recruitment and selection process can be found on our application hints and tips page.
