Juggling life at home and work is always a challenge but particularly when you become a parent.

“It’s important to have an understanding work environment,” says one mother in a new video about parenthood and why being able to work flexibly is so important.

More than a third of HSBC employees combine a career at the bank with raising children. HSBC aims to provide a supportive, flexible and inclusive working environment to help all employees perform at their best and build a career that works for them.

“The most successful organisations recognise the importance of providing flexibility and support for new parents,” said António Simões, Chief Executive, HSBC Bank plc, who took paternity leave after becoming a father last year.

“As we build a better bank for the future, I am proud that we are supporting our people, including parents and carers, to balance their career and family commitments.”

HSBC has a global well-being programme that is designed to help people achieve their goals inside and outside of work.

Employee networks

HSBC employees run seven global networks, which promote diversity and inclusion within the bank. They offer advice, support and help to create a culture where everyone feels included. The Nurture network, for example, supports working parents and carers.
