Encrypting e-mails reduces the risk of eavesdropping, tampering and mail forgery. That's why we have made it our policy to encrypt and secure all e-mails when they contain information that could pose a risk to you or HSBC if intercepted inappropriately.

Transport Layer Security
Transport Layer Security (TLS) secures the transmission of e-mail over the internet. HSBC has joined a growing number of organisations that have implemented TLS, and it is our preferred method of encryption. Using TLS has many benefits, thus making it an ideal solution for secure e-mail communication between organisations. However, for the e-mail to be encrypted, the TLS must be enabled on the mail servers of both the sender and receiver.
Furthermore, our policy is to use Forced TLS where ever possible. Forced TLS guarantees that e-mails from HSBC are always sent encrypted over a secure connection. We are now actively working with our customers, clients and other third parties to ensure that their email gateways are configured to accept e-mails we send in this way.
