Sean O’Sullivan has been Group Managing Director and Group Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Holdings plc since 1 August 2011. Mr O’Sullivan is the executive accountable for improving organisational effectiveness across HSBC. He has been Group Chief Technology and Services Officer (CTSO) since 11 January 2011 and continues to lead HSBC Technology and Services, which provides services to HSBC’s business areas. Mr O’Sullivan joined HSBC in 1980 and spent the first 22 years of his career in commercial banking, branch management and executive management positions in Toronto and Vancouver. From 2002 to 2004 he was an executive vice president at HSBC USA Inc. in New York City. After serving as Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Bank Canada, based in Toronto, from 2004-2007, Mr O’Sullivan moved to the UK as CTSO for HSBC Technology and Services UK. He was responsible for information technology, service delivery and quality, collections, corporate real estate, purchasing, security and operational risk. Mr O’Sullivan has also served as a director of HSBC Investments Canada and a director and chairman of HSBC Securities Canada. Mr O’Sullivan was born in London, UK, and is a graduate of the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He is married and has two children.
