Brian Robertson

Brian Robertson was appointed Chief Executive of HSBC Bank plc, with effect from 3 December 2010, having served as Chief Risk Officer for the HSBC Group from September 2007.

He is also Chairman of HSBC Life (UK) Limited and a director of HSBC Bank plc.

Mr Robertson was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, and educated at Cambridge University where he took an MA degree in geography. He took his ACIB in Hong Kong where he finished in the top three.

He joined HSBC in 1975 and, after postings in the Middle East and Hong Kong, in 1991 he transferred to Buffalo, New York State, where he became chief credit officer, HSBC Bank USA, followed by a move to Toronto, Canada, as chief operating officer of HSBC Bank Canada. In 1997 he returned to the UK as general manager Northern Division for HSBC Bank plc and then served in Hong Kong from 2000 as assistant general manager and head of corporate and institutional banking.

In March 2003 he became a group general manager and moved to New York as head of corporate, investment banking and markets – North America. In January 2005 he took up the role of group general manager, group credit and risk in Group head office. On 25 February 2008 he was appointed group managing director and joined the HSBC Group Management Board.

He is married with two adult children.
