At HSBC we put a lot of emphasis on courageous integrity. This actually is a value that I hold very dearly myself: integrity is very important to me. So if I were to work at a place where this was not important, that wouldn’t work for me, you know, that would not make me happy to be at work. But actually, being here and knowing that this is the single most important value that our CEO put emphasis on, it makes me very comfortable that I can also work based on this principle, and also it helps me build the trust with my colleagues as well. So all in all it makes it a very good place to work.
Well let’s take my case for example, how a global presence of a bank can help somebody’s career. After working in London for a few years, I had the opportunity to go and work in New York, and then also eventually move back to Hong Kong where it also makes more sense for me from a personal point of view to be closer to family, etc. Without that global presence as a bank that wouldn’t, at all, have been possible.
Working on the trading floor is very exciting. As anybody who first comes to the trading floor will realise, it’s a very noisy and kind of dynamic place. Actually in my role sometimes we require a bit of quiet time to think and create new ideas and try to solve a problem. Sometimes this could be a little bit distracting, but at the same time, it actually also makes it quite fun to be in the middle of what’s happening in the market.
