If you’re looking for a global career platform, you’ll find it at HSBC. That was the attraction for me when I was looking for a trainee programme that would help me to grow in the banking industry.
The aim of the HSBC Management Trainee Programme is to develop you as an all-rounder in Retail Banking and Wealth Management. In three years, I’ve gained experience in four different departments and teams: strategic planning, product, campaign design and frontline sales. I’ve also worked overseas twice. The first, as part of the programme, was a posting to Hong Kong. Earlier this year, I spent two months on an extended break in New York and was able to take ideas from a new market environment.
I’m currently in charge of new card acquisition. It’s a very broad role that involves everything from delivering the acquisition plan and monitoring performance to communicating developments to our product, operations, sales, marketing and risk teams. The credit card business is fast paced. HSBC is moving forward quickly, and we’re able to adjust direction and create new buzz in this highly competitive market, meeting our acquisition targets with a relatively small team.
I have been able to explore many opportunities at HSBC largely because of the support of my management team and team members. The bank has not only backed me in my career development but also as a person. In my current role I have to share new ideas with my whole department, which creates dialogue, but feedback and discussion is always welcomed at the bank. Opportunities are everywhere at HSBC – and with the bank’s technology and global connections, it means you can access them easily.
