When I was looking for a graduate programme, I was particularly interested in overseas job opportunities, a dynamic work environment where creative ideas are appreciated and a solid career path. HSBC offered all of these.
Within Retail Banking and Wealth Management, I am learning how to transform our business using better practices through the Management Trainee Programme. Every day is more challenging, eye opening and fun than the one before. For example, I completed a group project where our task was to find out what people in the community thought of HSBC. We interviewed more than 50 people at random and then made a film from their responses to present to executives at HSBC. The task was both fun and insightful.
I have also become involved in HSBC’s global primary schools programme JA More Than Money, in Istanbul, which aims to teach students basic finance. Being around children is always inspiring. After I started on the JA More Than Money programme, I realised that there is a lack of financial literacy in Turkey, and I hope I can contribute something to the community.
In just 10 months, my career ideas have changed as have my expectations. The people I work with inspire me: the head of our team is an International Manager, and many of my colleagues have also been on one of HSBC’s other career development programmes.
