UK Executive Management Programme

HSBC's Graduate Programmes

The UK Executive Management Programme is for graduates looking to develop a career with a leading global bank. The programme provides you opportunities to explore every aspect of retail, commercial and strategic management. Upon completion, you will progress quickly into your first leadership role within either our Retail or Commercial network.

Who can apply?

To be considered for the programme, you will:

  • Have a minimum 2:1 honours degree or equivalent (predicted or gained in any discipline)
  • Have a grade A or higher in both Mathematics and English at GCSE or equivalent
  • Have at least two months' customer-related work experience
  • Demonstrate evidence of holding a position of responsibility at school or university
  • Be nationally, and potentially internationally, mobile

Applications for this programme are currently closed.

What to expect

Supported by experienced managers, colleagues and a wide network of diverse peers, you will be encouraged to take on responsibility and bring new ideas to the table. You will be valued as an individual and for the contribution you make.

Over the two-year programme, you will understand how we work and how different parts within a specific business line of HSBC fit together. Through four six-month placements in Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Head Office/Project Management and Leadership, you will develop the knowledge and insight needed to drive future growth.

The two placements in Retail Banking and Wealth Management and in Commercial Banking will be hands-on, customer-facing roles where you will get invaluable frontline experience.

The third placement will vary and could include delivering key business projects or cost efficiencies, or helping develop new products and processes. There will be emphasis on experiential learning alongside your line managers and colleagues, taking on increasing responsibility and putting your knowledge into action. With your final placement, you will bring everything together and take on a leadership role. This could be managing a team in a branch, call centre or in the head office.

Learning, development and support

Our programme will equip you with the skills and experience required to start a successful career with HSBC, as well as the opportunity to develop your professional network with colleagues around the world.

Over the course of the programme, we typically offer:

  • Intensive on-the-job learning and formal training courses
  • Regular reviews with a dedicated Graduate Development Manager and a mentor/buddy
  • A four-week residential Group Graduate Development Programme
  • A six-monthly Executive Management event to enhance your leadership and communication skills
  • Support (including generous study leave) to study for the IFS School of Finance BSc in Banking Management and Practice
  • Regular events to help you build a vital network of friends, colleagues and future business contacts across the organisation
  • Additional projects such as working on community action initiatives, fundraising for a nominated charity or planning promotional events to drive your development further
