Who can apply?
To be considered for the programme, you will:
- Currently be an undergraduate senior or be a graduate with a GPA of at least 3.2
- Possess a proven track record in sales or customer service
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities gained through volunteer, community or extra-curricular activities
- Have the legal right to work in the USA.
Internships are also available, according to business needs, for undergraduate juniors.
What to expect
The HSBC Retail Banking and Wealth Management Graduate Development Programme is a comprehensive two year rotational programme designed to develop HSBC's future leaders.
Through rotational assignments and training, you will be expected to acquire a diverse set of skills and a deep understanding of the business. You will be able to leverage your developing capabilities to achieve practical and strategic results. You will gain valuable experience in both our in branch and corporate environments through a combination of training, formal work assignments, and project work. While rotating through the different areas, you will be exposed to retail and business banking services, sales and customer experience, and a network of contacts from all levels of management.
In addition, you will gain exposure to a broad variety of supporting functions that drive Retail Banking and Wealth Management's strategy of focusing on international connectivity and wealth. Examples of sales and/or supporting functions include product support, operations, marketing and risk management. Along the way, you will be expected to develop the core banking, management and leadership skills necessary to move into a role in the organisation. You will be continually challenged, but have the support of colleagues, "buddies" and mentors, HSBC leadership, and a programme manager.
Candidates should choose one of the following tracks to pursue – Licensed Sales Professional (LSP) or Generalist. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will post for roles in the bank based on your success during the programme, career path aspirations, and business needs.
As a participant in the Generalist track you will gain valuable experience in both our in-branch and corporate environments through a combination of classroom, interactive seminars, formal work assignments, and project work. You will be exposed to retail and commercial banking services, sales and customer experience, and a network of contacts from all levels of management.
Licensed Sales Professional (LSP)
LSP trainees will be expected to develop the core banking, wealth management and leadership skills necessary to move into a permanent sales role with Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Trainees will be continually challenged, but have the support of colleagues, buddies, mentors, HSBC leadership, and a Programme Manager. During the programme, you will be required to successfully pass a series of exams (Series 7, Series 63, Life and Health).

You will progress through a series of rotations with the goal of enhancing HSBC's global capabilities with targeted development of:

Depending on which programme track you choose you will complete rotational assignments in areas such as:
- Retail Banking and Wealth Management Retail Network
- Business Banking
- Business Performance
- Human Resources
