Applications are now open and close on Sunday, 29 March 2015.

Who can apply?

This programme is aimed at those in the later years of full-time secondary, sixth form or college education who are keen to get an introduction to what a career in financial services may be like.

The work experience opportunities will be available through June and July 2015. Specific details regarding each opportunity will appear when applications are open.

To be considered for the programme, you will:

  • Be in full-time education either at secondary school, sixth form or college at the time of the work experience commencing.
  • Be keen and motivated to find out more about HSBC and to be prepared to complete the application process, which will include some online questions and if successful, a telephone interview.

How to apply

To apply for the UK Work Experience Programme please follow the instructions below:

  • Click on the Apply Now link
  • In the Keywords search box, enter “Work Experience”
  • In the job field, select “Graduates & Internships”
  • In the location box, select “Europe”, then “United Kingdom”

You will then be asked to choose a specific area of the country

What to expect

Supported by experienced managers, you will be shadowing colleagues and encouraged to ask questions to help you understand more about HSBC. During the work experience, you will learn what it is like to work in one of our retail, commercial, operational or head office areas (subject to availability).

You will get to know HSBC – our values, our history and exactly what we do – and gain an insight into actual jobs that you would be doing if you came to work for us full-time. There will be an opportunity to work on a live project and share your ideas with managers.

If you decide to go to university, the work experience programme is a great early insight into a potential career choice. We have first year and penultimate year internships available for undergraduates and also a Graduate Development Programme for when you finish University.

If you decide you do not want to go to university, you can still apply for a job with us, and if successful, our expectation is that we will offer you a place on our Apprenticeship Programme within three to six months. We will provide you with training, rotational work placements and the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications throughout the programme.

Learning, development and support

Our programme will provide you with an insight into what it is like to work for a global bank and help you decide your future career options.

Over the course of the programme, we typically offer:

  • Real work experience
  • Feedback on how you can develop yourself
  • Tips on recruitment processes for the future
  • Opportunities to meet a range of HSBC employees and ask as many questions as you want to help you understand what working for HSBC is like and your potential future ambitions
