What to expect

We are looking for the future leaders of Global Operations. You will need to be forward-thinking and innovative, with a passion for driving change and an openness to different ideas and cultures.

Global Operations is one of the key functions in HSBC Operations, Services and Technology and employs more than 50,000 colleagues around the world. We support all four global businesses – Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Global Private Banking and Global Banking and Markets – in delivering customer operations and services.

Graduates who join our programme will complete four, six-month rotations, gaining global experience across the function and a deep understanding of the critical role Global Operations plays in delivering customer service and driving change across the bank. You will learn to manage projects, build stakeholder relationships, manage risk and deliver innovative, fast-paced change. You will also gain experience of working internationally through a rotation in one of our 20 Global Service Centres which are located in India, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Poland. You will be actively involved in key programmes of transformation which will contribute to shaping the future of Global Operations.

As well as your immediate team, we have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), also known as networks. They are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups. Our seven core global diversity-themed networks are: Ability, Balance, Embrace, Faith, Generations, Nurture and Pride.

The programme starts in July 2018 and offers opportunities in the UK (Birmingham, London and Sheffield) and Hong Kong. We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your role and location.

Learning and development

We offer excellent opportunities for you to grow your career within a leading financial institution. This starts with our Induction which provides an overview of HSBC, the opportunity to connect with peers and business leaders from across the world, creating a truly global network and preparing you for the programme.

During the programme you’ll develop core technical and leadership capabilities. You will work in an open, collaborative environment that values learning. You will receive technical training relevant to your role and have access to the HSBC University. We are here to support your development but as a forward-thinking, motivated individual it will be up to you to drive it.

A mentor and buddy will be assigned to give you advice and share ideas. You will also have a dedicated programme manager who will help you during your programme. We'll encourage you to build your network of contacts, which will be invaluable as your HSBC career unfolds.

Career paths

Performing well on the programme will lead to you becoming a Senior Operations Manager in one of our critical business functions delivering customer operations or change. It will provide you with a platform for a varied international career and to develop critical future skills and capabilities. Over time, we expect to see graduates from this programme becoming members of the Global Operations Leadership Team; the committee of colleagues who are responsible for running the function and delivering seamless customer operations and change for the bank. The programme also provides a great springboard for a career in other parts of the Group.
