What to expect

We’re looking for future Commercial Bankers within Global Commercial Banking. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.

On the 18 month programme, you will complete three rotations, each lasting six months. The rotations will give you a broad experience of the Commercial Bank and for those demonstrating the highest potential there is the possibility of spending one of these rotations internationally.*

Opportunities are focused on gearing you for future roles in two specific areas:

Relationship Management will show you how we connect with businesses of all sizes and provide solutions to meet their needs. You will take on a client-facing role, gain insight into governance and risk, and products and strategy.

Global Trade and Receivables Finance will introduce you to the complexities of trade cycles. With rotations in areas ranging from product management and business development to risk, you'll understand how we help clients to use working capital efficiently, manage trade risk and fund supply chains.

You’ll be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work. As well as your immediate team, we have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), also known as networks. They are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups. Our seven core global diversity-themed networks are: Ability, Balance, Embrace, Faith, Generations, Nurture and Pride. We also have common interest groups that connect employees on a variety of different topics. They are open to all employees.

We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your role and location.

Learning and development

We offer fantastic opportunities for you to grow your career. We take your development seriously and are committed to supporting you in driving your career forward. This starts with our global induction which will provide you with an overview of HSBC, the opportunity to connect with peers and business leaders from across the world, and will prepare you for the programme.

You will follow an 18 month developmental learning journey where you will receive on-the-job training and formal development, aligned to our Commercial Banking Academy, which will give you a solid foundation of business understanding and strategic knowledge. We'll also support you to study for relevant local or global professional qualifications.

You will drive your development, with regular access to business leaders for coaching and advice. You will also be assigned a mentor and buddy, who can offer guidance and support. While there are plenty of learning tools in place, you'll benefit most from the people around you. You'll be sitting alongside some of the most talented people in the industry, who will be keen to pass on their knowledge.

We will encourage you to build a network of contacts, within Commercial Banking and beyond, which will be vital as your career unfolds.
