There have been many challenges on the job and one of those challenges is to be a woman in the banking world, which is traditionally a male environment. When I joined I felt HSBC’s culture valued diversity and inclusion and over 10 years later I still believe that.
The bank has given me and other female colleagues support to climb the leadership ladder at HSBC. I have been on the High Potential Women’s Programme and the Next Generation Development Programme. Both gave me great insight into how to see situations from different perspectives and that has helped me not just in my interactions with colleagues, but with clients as well.
I am Division Head in the Large Corporates, Greater China team. In Commercial Banking you develop a good set of skills. I lead a great team of Relationship Managers and support staff, who serve the corporate needs of China’s privately-owned and state-owned enterprises. We handle a lot of cross-border dealings with clients and regularly travel as part of the job.
For candidates who are thinking about joining HSBC, my advice would be to keep your individuality. This is a place where you are encouraged to speak up with your ideas and solutions – we respect others and embrace diversity.
