I started as a cashier in a branch after university and I’ve worked my way up to team management.

My career at HSBC started immediately after university when I joined as a branch cashier. Since then, I have worked my way up to a Senior Manager level. Over the years I’ve had an incredible range of roles, within branches and in analytics, which have taken me to various cities such as Norfolk, Sheffield, Leeds, London and Birmingham.

I believe that a lot of the success I have experienced at HSBC can be attributed to the bank’s culture. It’s a place where people are encouraged and given support to do their best. While working as an Analyst, I was always inspired to go that extra mile, do presentations, write papers and represent the team.

I work in a team-oriented environment. I’m always there for my teams in India and in London, both in terms of managing projects and in a personal capacity. As I’m their subject matter expert, they rely on me to translate complex data into something more meaningful for their line of work.

The culture at HSBC is very open, people are honest and encouraged to avoid bias in decision making, and to do the right thing. I am proud to work for a bank that is very supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues. Being gay has never been an issue for me in the workplace and fellow colleagues were very supportive when I got married two years ago. Employees are provided with resources that support diversity and inclusion, such as the Pride network which has been a great way for me to meet new friends through the bank.
