As the regional manager for the branch network in New South Wales, Australia, I am responsible for 15 branches across greater Sydney. We have 250 staff and a balance sheet exceeding USD10 billion.
The bank has a rich cultural diversity and broad opportunities across the world. We have a strong commitment to the communities in which we operate through volunteering, charitable and environmental programmes.
One of our major challenges in New South Wales is to grow our business, particularly against the major local domestic banks, so we aim to target customers through our Premier services and seek people with an international background or mind-set.
I have been with the bank for 10 years and before that worked for a competitor here in Australia. HSBC is a fantastic organisation to work for. After joining, I was seconded to Hong Kong for a couple of years, working as a senior manager in international retail banking, then head of customer propositions and head of sales performance.
I am lucky that I now have daily contact with our frontline staff and customers. I visit branches to review local strategies and performance, coach and observe staff and meet customers. I also work with people from the marketing team to develop local plans, with service delivery to improve processes and wider management for broader performance and strategy direction.
