You have to find time to do the things you like and spend time with your colleagues

I am a senior relationship manager in Commercial Banking in Sydney, looking after a portfolio of large corporate customers who are based overseas. When I was at university I never saw myself in a sales role, but now I would never go back. I studied economics at the University of Sydney, have a graduate diploma in applied finance and investment and went into banking after my studies.

I enjoy working here, it is busy and challenging but there are only so many hours in the day so you have to find time to do the things you like and spend time with your colleagues.

Exercise is an important part of my routine so I try to get in some exercise two to three times during the working week and often go for a run with other team members. I also try to have a Friday lunch with colleagues, as this is a good way to wind down at the end of the week. You have to learn to delegate so I take my product partners along to most meetings. That way they can take ownership of various matters, feel responsibility and be accountable.

The business environment requires flexibility and I would say that is the most important quality in banking. If you lack flexibility you are likely to miss opportunities, both in your personal life and your work.
