Group Chief Operating Officer

Sean O’Sullivan has been Group Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Holdings plc, Group Managing Director and a member of the Group Management Board since 1 August 2011.

Mr O’Sullivan is the executive accountable for improving organisational effectiveness across HSBC. He has been Group Chief Technology and Services Officer (CTSO) since January 2011 and continues to lead HSBC Technology and Services, which provides services to HSBC’s business areas.

Mr O’Sullivan joined HSBC in 1980 and spent the first 22 years of his career in commercial banking, branch management and executive management positions in Toronto and Vancouver. From 2002 to 2004 he was an executive vice president at HSBC USA Inc. in New York City.

After serving as Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Bank Canada, from 2004 to 2007, Mr O’Sullivan moved to the UK as CTSO for HSBC Technology and Services UK. He was responsible for information technology, service delivery and quality, collections, corporate real estate, purchasing, security and operational risk. Mr O’Sullivan has also served as a director of HSBC Investments Canada and a director and chairman of HSBC Securities Canada.

Mr O’Sullivan was born in London and is a graduate of the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He is married with two children.
