Our Stakeholders

Customers

At HSBC, we have over 125 million customers. In most of the countries and territories in which we operate, we conduct regular surveys to monitor customer satisfaction.

We generally seek to respond within 48 hours to customer queries and complaints and use them as opportunities to learn and improve.

Colleagues

Forty years ago, the HSBC Group employed about 8,000 people, mostly in Asia. Today, we employ 312,000 in 82 countries and territories. We have no more important task than harnessing the diverse talents of our people. Their views play a vital part in making HSBC a great place to work.

Suppliers

We have developed an Ethical Code of Conduct for Suppliers of Goods and Services which spells out our expectations of suppliers’ environmental practices and employment conditions. If you are interested in supplying goods or services to us, we ask that you first ensure you comply with this Code of Conduct and submit a completed Supplier Registration Form.

Non-governmental organisations

We are in regular contact with a number of non-governmental organisations representing wider society, including our HSBC Climate Partnership partners The Climate Group, Earthwatch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and WWF.

We recognise the need for disclosure of the effects of our policies such as lending, and seek the right balance between transparency and protecting our interests and those of our customers.

Governments and regulators

Public regulators, on behalf of society, issue banking licences only to those organisations in which they have total confidence. We also participate in numerous government-led and financial services industry working parties.

The Group does not make contributions to political parties.

Investors

Our executive Directors lead our engagement efforts with the investment community through a range of activities and reports including the Annual Report and Accounts, the Annual Review, the Annual General Meeting.

For more information, see Investor Relations.

Special Interests

Many areas of sustainability provide opportunities to collaborate with other financial services organisations through international commitments to establish best practice. We work with other companies and organisations on a range of issues including human rights, sustainability, bribery and money laundering, and reporting.
