HSBC’s first international survey of public attitudes towards climate change highlights a surprising spectrum of opinions across the world. Climate change may be a global issue, but reactions to it vary strongly. The HSBC Climate Confidence Index shows that people in developing economies exhibit the greatest concern, commitment and optimism towards the problem of climate change and in developed economies the greatest indifference, reluctance and fatalism.

28 June 2007 - HSBC announces US$90 million Global Environmental Efficiency Programme
HSBC, the world's first major bank to become carbon neutral, has committed a further US$90 million over five years to reduce the bank's impact on the environment through a series of initiatives, including the introduction of renewable energy technology, water and waste reduction programmes and employee engagement.

HSBC has announced a five-year, US$8 million environmental partnership with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) to fund the largest ever field experiment on the long-term effects of climate change and how it will affect the world's forests.
06 February 2007 - HSBC wins environmental performance award
HSBC has won the Environmental Performance Award at this year's Hong Kong Awards for Industries. HSBC is the first Hong Kong bank in the Awards' 15 year history to receive this environmental accolade, which recognises local enterprises for their pursuit of environmental excellence.
