Carbon Reduction Campaign, Hong Kong

More than 5,000 employees from 62 companies have taken part in Hong Kong's first cross-industry climate change campaign, sponsored by HSBC. The 'Hong Kong Carbon Reduction Campaign', run in 2009, aimed to educate employees from different companies about climate change, and encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint, both at work and home.
On average, each participant reduced their carbon footprint by over 20%, doubling the original campaign target of 10 per cent. More than 90 per cent of surveyed participants felt they had made real changes, had actively adopted low carbon behaviours and were motivating friends and family to do the same.
Each received tools such as a low carbon guidebook, to help them reduce their carbon footprint. Over 1,200 people attended 34 training workshops conducted by The Climate Group, one of HSBC's Climate Partners. The campaign was also supported by the Hong Kong Government, and partially funded by the Environment & Conservation Fund and the Environmental Campaign Committee.
Edward Yau, Secretary for the Environment, Hong Kong SAR Government, said, "To deliver a successful outcome on the climate change issue requires synergy between government, the business community and the general public. It is very satisfying to see the 'Hong Kong Carbon Reduction Campaign' has garnered support from companies large and small all sharing a common goal."
