Bafana, Orange Farm, Johannesburg

Bafana was abandoned after his parents died. Through Future First, the SOS Children's Villages were able to find him shelter and provide food parcels. They were also able to support him with education and medical care. Bafana attends a support group where he receives regular counselling. SOS Children's Villages introduced him to other child headed households, so they can support one another in case of emergencies, particularly at night when the SOS Children's Villages are closed.
Family Strengthening Programmes are being supported in six SOS's Children's Villages around South Africa. The programmes aim to prevent child abandonment, by providing a safety net for children and their families until they become self-reliant.
