Martin Spurling leads HSBC Bank International

15 September 2006

Martin Spurling was appointed Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank International with effect from 26 August 2006. He replaces Guy Hamilton who began his new role this month as Head of Central and Eastern Europe, HSBC Bank plc after being appointed to the position in June.

Martin leads the Jersey-headquartered offshore bank of HSBC Bank plc which provides international banking and investment services to expatriates and overseas residents in more than 200 countries and territories across the world.

Commenting on his appointment, Martin said: "There is continued growth potential for this dynamic business, as an increasing number of people with ties to multiple countries need to be able to manage their money efficiently. HSBC Bank International is in a unique position to help these customers do just that, thanks to HSBC’s unparalleled global footprint and expertise."

Martin joined HSBC as an International Manager in 1989. Most recently he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Taiwan where he led the consumer banking business that included more than 1,500 staff and served 800,000 customers.

Prior to that, he served four years at HSBC Bank International in Jersey as Head of Offshore Investments and Life Insurance. In that role, he managed the production, distribution and servicing of US$1.5 billion of HSBC funds under management for the HSBC Group's offshore banking business.
