Group Finance Director Douglas Flint has accepted an award from The Banker magazine naming HSBC as Global Bank of the Year for the fourth year running.
Douglas Flint accepted the award from Stephen Timewell, editor-in-chief of The Banker, at The Dorchester Hotel in London.
In 2005, according to the magazine, HSBC "continued to progress with interim profits up 5 per cent to $10.64bn backed by further expansion in China, growing investment banking revenues and selective disposals".
Given its balanced network geographically and strong presence in growing emerging markets worldwide, HSBC has been well placed to take advantage of the opportunities available and also grow for the future, the magazine stated.
Commenting on the award HSBC Group Chairman Sir John Bond said: "We are delighted to have won the Global Bank of the Year Award for the fourth year running. HSBC has made further progress during the last 12 months as we have worked to serve the best interests of our customers and shareholders. The award honours the talents and dedication of my colleagues around the world."
In addition Peter Wong, Executive Director, Hong Kong and Mainland China of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, accepted two Bank of the Year awards on behalf of Hong Kong and Asia Pacific.
HSBC also picked up two other Bank of the year country awards for Mauritius and Egypt and won two other awards for Best Cash Management House - Asia Pacific, and FX House of the Year - Asia Pacific.
