HSBC announces $1million matched funding scheme

04 January 2005

HSBC has set aside up to US$1million to match staff donations to international disaster relief campaigns following the tsunamis in South East Asia on 26 December.

The matched funding scheme is a further contribution made by the world’s local bank to the disaster relief efforts. In the immediate aftermath of the tidal waves, HSBC was one of the first banks to respond, pledging US$1 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through the Hong Kong Bank Foundation.

The latest pledge – of up to US$1 million - will be used to match donations made by HSBC staff across the world, towards relief and reconstruction in the countries immediately affected by the tsunamis. Many HSBC staff in South East Asia have also been heavily involved in local relief efforts.
